Welcome to Woodland Wampum

Shoulder Bag by Dave HaslerWelcome to Woodland Wampum and traditional quillwork. I hope you enjoy my work. As a youth I grew up in the countryside of western New York State at the Western Door of the old Seneca Nation. It was there I developed a deep admiration for their history and culture. I now live on the banks of Little Beards Creek in the town of Leicester. The region has deep roots in colonial history and is the site of the western most battle of the Revolutionary War fought in New York State. I have been an avid French and Indian War and Revolutionary War reenactor since 1976 belonging to various Ranger and Line Infantry Companies over the years. I have gained much knowledge through living history and personal research.

Retiring from a career in Art education I now devote my time to reproducing historically correct and authentic eastern woodland Indian crafts. I use correct period materials and techniques to create one-of-a-kind original pieces. No two are ever the same. Museum works and photos help me to capture the 18th century authenticity.

Legging Ties by Dave HaslerLook for me at various historic events in the future. I plan on doing many shows now that my teaching days are over. My pieces sell quite quickly so I do not have a standing inventory. By contacting me I can work personally with you to construct and create a custom piece to your request. You can gather your own information and references from books and photos, or use some of my pieces as a starting point. I look forward to hearing from you and assisting you in your 18th century woodland native, or longhunter impression.
